Household garbage is rubbish coming from private households.
HIM today collects garbage from roughly 55 000 inhabitants divided between about 23 000 households in Bokn, Etne, Haugesund, Tysvær and Vindafjord. In addition to this we also collect garbage from nearly 3500 holiday cottages.
In Bokn, Etne, Tysvær and Vindafjord food waste and residual waste is collected every fortnight.
In Haugesund the food waste is collected every week, while residual waste and paper waste is collected every fortnight. Plastic packing are collected in sacks together with the paper waste. Remember to tie the sack well after having filled it.
Glass and metal packing you can deliver to the about 40 stations for return which is spread around in the district.
From 01.01.2010 the whole HIM area will have shared waste disposal plan. Then all private participants will have a 3 bin system. One bin for residual waste, one bin for food waste and and one for paper. When this change comes, times for emptying the boxes will be modified. We’ll give more information on this later.
Garden waste, as for instance branches and twigs, you can bring to Årabrot or Toraneset Miljøpark. Garden waste will be composted in Toraneset.
